Designed for robust, high speed, fully quantitative X-ray mapping, Probe Image (for X-ray map acquisition) and CalcImage (for rigorous quantification of X-ray maps), provide a complete solution for manual and automated analog signal (SE, BSE, CL, etc.) imaging, and X-ray (WDS and EDS) mapping of multiple samples under multiple conditions for JEOL and Cameca EPMA instruments.

- Probe Image is a complete image acquisition and processing application specifically designed for electron microprobes.
- Acquire simultaneous analog, digital or pulse count images of any size (limited only by available memory) with completely independent aspect ratio and pixel resolution for maximum flexibility.
- Utilizes real world coordinate and Z scaler registration of XYZ stage coordinates and Z image data. This means that both beam scan and stage motion functions are completely integrated and spatially quantified. The Z image data palette bar can be in user or program defined units (volts, counts, weight %, etc.).
- Perform *fully* quantitative x-ray mapping where *each* pixel is independently corrected for dead time, beam drift, standard intensity drift, background, matrix corrections (Armstrong, PAP, XPP, etc.), spectral interferences and even time dependent intensity corrections for beam sensitive samples.
- Background correction methods include both traditional “off-peak” methods where high and/or low background position maps are acquired, but also the mean atomic number (MAN) method which provides a high accuracy background correction *without* the need for off-peak map acquisition. This means fully quantitative x-ray maps in 1/2 the acquisition time, and with *improved* precision over traditional methods! See this American Mineralogist paper for details.

Quantitative Classification and Automatic Match Features
Utilize our advanced classification and phase matching software for quick calculation of area and mass abundance determinations. Processing of x-ray intensity maps into modal abundances is fast, informative and easy in our CalcImage image processing application.
- Import an x-ray acquisition from Probe Image using the CalcImage New Project Wizard. Run the quantification to correct for background, matrix and interference effects and automatically save all concentration data for every pixel.
- Import the quantitative results using the CalcImage Processing | Classify menu and run a Hartigan-Wong kmeans clustering by specifying the number of clusters and desired precision.
- Import the calculated centroid averages for the phases present using the Processing | Modal Abundances menu and perform an automatic match using any compositional database.
